Yes piracy is wrong, yadda yadda yadda. But if these bills pass (which Obama said he would veto them, so that means they’ll just get reworded and resubmitted) it means that if you have anything resembling something in any picture or if you write about it you could be censored. You write fanfiction using characters from a popular tv show, guess what that’s violating the piracy act because you’re using copy righted material. You’re facebook profile picture is you standing outside of a McDonalds, censored, McDonalds is a trademark and copy righted. You met your favorite musician and you want to post a picture of it, you can’t because it can be deemed as violating a copy right.
And if any of you think that this is all smoke being blown up your ass, guess what it’s not. Today Megaupload was shut down, without SOPA passing. Yes, some people use MU for piracy, but it is also used to share large files and other things. I know I personally use it to send family members videos and pictures from family get togethers. So take that for what you will.
